SOCIAL JUSTICE

The Social Justice Committee was formed three years ago in alignment with our second UU principle of justice, equity, and compassion in human relations. The group provides services and activities, following our motto “Deed, not Creeds”. The current focus since its formation has been to improve the circumstances of our local unhoused neighbors.

Services include providing weekly lunches at the shower buses for the homeless.  We also provide breakfast every first Tuesday for the occupants of Camp Justice, the County-approved and supported homeless camp.  Residents are required to move their belongings each month so the camp may be cleaned by the County.  We try to make that day a little less difficult by providing breakfast, treats, beverages, and good will.

The committee encourages the congregation to donate to the Mother Lode Food Project which collects and distributes to agencies helping our food-insecure neighbors.

The newsletter, the Catalyst, is published twice a month to keep everyone up-to-date on what is happening.
