Visiting UUFTC?

Welcome

When you are visiting UUFTC, we want you to feel like the honored guest you are, and not a stranger.  This page is intended to help you know what to expect. We suggest you browse this website to get to know more about us.

Sunday Services

Currently, we meet four Sundays a month (there is no service when there is a  5th Sunday). The Sonora group presents the services on the first and third Sunday of each month at 10 a.m. at Fellowship House and via Zoom.   The Calaveras group presents the services on the second and fourth Sunday of each month at 10:30 a.m.  For information on Zoom access, email uuftc3@gmail.com or subscribe to our Zoom email list for service information and Zoom links

A typical in person Sunday Service,  begins with a welcome and opening words. After lighting a flaming chalice, we share “Joys and Sorrows” with one another, we may have a reading or sing a hymn or song after which we transition to a quiet time for a brief meditation.  There may be another reading or more music before the speaker of the day – a UUFTC member, a community member, or a member of the  clergy – either UU or from another denomination.  There is always time for responding to the speaker’s message after the talk – and then we extinguish our flaming chalice and end the service.

Dress is casual.  We have a coffee hour after the service, a social time with more time for discussion of the morning’s talk.

When we meet online, we retain as many elements of our face-to-face services as is practical.

Come! You are welcome no matter where you are on your spiritual path.  We look forward to meeting you in person or face-to-face on Zoom!

FAQ

What is Unitarian Universalism? Unitarian Universalism is a unique denomination, because we have different beliefs about the nature of God. We have a set of common principles, which focus on action, not beliefs.

Where and when do you meet? Map Page has links to Google Maps for you to find our various meeting places and times. Click Here

Is your church accessible to people in wheelchairs? Sonora is accessible; the historic “Old School House” in Douglas Flat is as well: The ramp, facing the front door is on the right side.

What do children do during the service? We do not currently have a program as we do not have any children attending. You are welcome to bring a child, but we do not have any nursery care at this time.

What do adults wear? Our members wear everything from jeans and tee-shirts to their “Sunday-go-to-meeting” best. We want everyone to feel comfortable and to participate as much or as little as they want. There are no “musts” except for respect for oneself and others.
